Questions, answered plainly.

What is the difference between the three jars?
Golden is an East African shea moisture balm with five ingredients. Pure Shea is 100% pure East African shea butter with nothing added. Glowabe is a gentle children's skincare balm with the same ingredient list as Golden.
What does AHOTO mean?
Ahoto is a Twi word for a body at ease. Our line is Start with skin. Body at ease.
Where is it made?
Made in Uganda. Packaged in the USA. Distributed by 302 Sika LLC, Hattiesburg, MS 39401. Those words are printed on the back of every jar.
Can children use it?
Glowabe is our children's balm. For a baby, ask the doctor before you start anything new. Every label asks for a patch test before first use and asks you to discontinue if irritation occurs.
Does it contain allergens?
Golden and Glowabe contain oats and soy. Pure Shea contains only shea butter, which comes from the nut of the shea tree. With a nut allergy, ask your doctor first.
How do I use it?
Golden and Glowabe: apply generously to clean skin or scalp, massage gently until absorbed, use twice daily or as needed. Pure Shea: warm a small amount between palms, massage gently into clean skin or scalp, use as needed.
Why does the texture change?
Pure shea butter is firmer in a cool room and softer in a warm one. The Pure Shea label says natural texture may vary with temperature.
How should I store it?
Somewhere cool and dry, with the lid closed.
What sizes are available?
Golden, Pure Shea and Glowabe all come in 56 g, 140 g and 230 g. Golden is in a black jar, Pure Shea and Glowabe in amber, and every jar has a plain gold lid.
Where can I buy it in person?
Nowhere yet. AHOTO is online only until the first jars ship.
Is it a medicine?
Our jars are for cosmetic use. For a skin condition, talk to your pharmacist or doctor.
