Start with skin. Body at ease.
Ahoto is a Twi word for a body at ease. We took it for a house of three shea jars from a pharmacist's family, made in Uganda and packaged in the USA.
Comfort, rooted in family.
Photographs are generated. Not customers, not results, not our family.

What does your skin need?
Not sure? Find your jar in five questions
Very dry skinTight by noon, rough by night.
Ashy, dull skinThat gray, dusty cast on deep skin.
Sensitive skinSkin that reacts to almost everything.
Children's skinDry after every bath.
Dry scalpTight and dry between wash days.
Photographs are generated. Not customers, not results.
Skin meets the world before we do.
Behind the pharmacy counter, we learned that good care does not belong to one complexion or one routine. So the house starts where every day starts, with skin.

Not all shea feels the same.
Shea has grown across the African continent for centuries. In Uganda, the East African variety is known for a softer character. We built AHOTO around what was already there.
Where our shea comes fromAll three jars start with the same shea.

Five ingredients. Every one earns its place.
A lotion is mostly water. This is not. Shea butter with oat kernel flour, rice bran extract, soy protein and an essential oil blend, in a black jar with a plain gold lid.

The ingredient list stops at one.
East African shea butter, cold pressed and unrefined. It softens in a warm room and firms in a cool one, and the label says so. We left it that way.

Found for Abena. Shared with you.
A gentle balm for children, with the same ingredient list as Golden. Abena is the founder's daughter. She still uses it, and so does her sister.
Also coming, and not for sale yet: the Body Ritual Mitt, the FaceFirst Ritual Cloth, towels and soap.

Some things do not need inventing. Only finding.
It wasn't supposed to become a brand.
It began with what we used at home. Then people asked what it was. Then they asked again. Eventually, the jar needed a name.
Comfort, rooted in family.

The whole story

Every kind of skin in the house.

Our shea comes from Uganda, where people have used it for generations.
Across Africa, shea has belonged to everyday care. Uganda gives us an East African expression known for its soft feel on skin.
The jar is new. The wisdom is not.

What to expect.
When a good ritual becomes a real one.
We will not promise what your skin will do. We can tell you how a jar fits into a day, and how to decide if it belongs in yours.
Before first use
A small patch first
- A dab inside the forearm, twice a day for three days
- Stop if it stings or turns red
First use
Firm in the jar, soft once warmed
- Warm a little between your fingers or palms
- Press it onto clean skin, still slightly damp
Week 1
The jar moves to where you use it
- By the sink, next to the towel
- Morning and night starts to feel ordinary
Month 1
You decide if it stays
- In daylight, in your own mirror
- If it is not for you, the guarantee is there
This describes how the jar gets used. It makes no promise about results.
What makes AHOTO different.
We did not build AHOTO around trend language. We built it around where the shea comes from, what belongs in the jar, and what a jar on the counter should actually be.
East Africa at the center
Every jar starts with East African shea, cold pressed and unrefined, and is made in Uganda.
Short on purpose
We prefer a short list you can read over a long one that does more for the label than the jar.
A pharmacist’s restraint
A pharmacist reads labels for a living. These are short enough to read at the sink.
Said on the jar
Golden and Glowabe go on clean skin or scalp. Pure Shea goes on face, body, lips, cuticles and scalp.
Sometimes the best recommendation is not to buy the jar.
Good advice includes knowing when a product fits, when to pause, and when skin deserves a closer look.
Good fit
- Dry skin
- Rough areas
- Everyday moisture
- Face, body or scalp, depending on the jar
Check first
- A known oat or soy allergy
- Sensitivity to essential oils
- Broken or actively irritated skin
- Buying for a baby
Ask a professional
A rash that lasts, bleeding, swelling or anything that keeps returning deserves a doctor. Our jars are for cosmetic use. For a skin condition, talk to your pharmacist or doctor.
